My Love for Painting!

I remember while growing up in Dubai, there was this small art workshop close to my home run by an old man in his 70’s, where I spent hours at a time. Every day after school, I would go to his workshop and check out his paintings. He mostly painted huge portraits and billboards. I paid close attention to his every stroke, color mixes, but mostly the amount of patience he had to complete them. To me, he was the best painter in the Whole Wide World!! I would come home and try drawing like him and learn to color. If I couldn’t, I would ask his help. He was kind enough to help me out.

Soon he moved away and I could no longer visit his workshopL. But, I continued to paint. But once I started college (Engineering in Electronics & Communications) and working for an IT firm, I had no time to draw or paint. But a year ago, I thought I need to pick up where I left off, so what if it didn’t pay my bills, it made me happy!

I  bought canvases of all sizes and acrylic paints and brushes and by just looking at them, I was a whole lot excited and couldn’t wait to start!! I then started looking up pictures I could draw and paint and soon enough I may have done around 14 paintings in a matter of 6-8 months.

I’m no great artist and I still try to recreate other paintings/drawings, but when I paint, that is all I can think about. Nothing else matters, it calms my mind, gives me time to get perspective on things:).

Right now it is just a hobby, but if I get better at it someday, I might want to do this for a living – who knows! I will put up 1 painting every week on this blog:).

Let me know what you think of them…

  1. It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t pay the bills as long as you LOVE painting and it makes you happy, keep painting! And that painting looks great, how are your others? You seem better than GOOD at this hobby.
